It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single Ipod in possession of a good App Store must be in want of an hostage.
It happened last week, on a boring grey day at home.
Instead of doing anything useful, I passed the afternoon in search for a new app.
I was not quite sure about what kind of app I wanted, so, before taking any decision, I took a gander at many different apps.
What interested me the most was the “Jane Austen FAN KIT APP” available on the App Store.
I’m quite sure that the majority of the Janeites all around the world already knows it.
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll give a simple explanation.
The Jane Austen FAN KIT APP – that I’ll call J-App – is a sensational cyber world in miniature of one of the most well known and appreciated English writer ever.
What can you do on J-App?
This app includes four main sections, each one with a different aim.
#1 QUOTE OF THE DAY
Quote of the Day is simply a random uploading of quotations from Jane Austen’s books.
You wake up in the morning and you can read a sentence from Emma or Persuasion, or from any of the other famous novels.
For many Janeites, the quote is considered as a message that will guide them through their daily routine, wondering if they will ever meet Mr Darcy on the Tube.
# 2MOVIE OF THE WEEK
All the information about the movies based on Jane Austen’s novels are collected in this app, and each week you will receive the detailed information about one of them.
It may happen – not to a Janeite! – that you’ve missed one of these movies and now, thanks to J-App, you perfectly know what movie you’re going to watch on the weekend if you have no plan yet.
Obviously, an app about Jane Austen couldn’t give you the chance to read her books.
Thank to the Wi-Fi you can read them at work, on the bus or while you’re waiting one of your friends on the street.
If you have already read all her novels, if you have already watched all the movies, and if you know by heart a great number of quotation, the only thing you need is to test yourself with a quiz.
Quotes and movies’ information can be shared on Facebook.
It doesn’t matter if you have not already bought your own Pride and Prejudice scarf – as most of the Janeites have done -, anyone can download and enjoy J-App.
And remember that Jane Austen’s watching you!
So, why not starting to become a Janeite?
