Lack of self-esteem, depression, deep sadness…

These are just few examples of those negative feelings or moods we may have felt once or more in our life, or maybe that we have heard about.

At a first sight, we may think that the only way to “come back being normal” is to find a good therapist, psychologist as if this kind of doctors could always really help us.

When the problems that afflict our life are not so insoluble as we may think, we can try to help us with an interesting and alternative self-therapy without spending our money.


The only “ingredients” that we need are:

-a paper

-a pen (or pencil, as you prefer!)

The preparation is very simple and does not require long hours of hard work.

Take the paper and the pen (or pencil), and just start writing your own goal-list.

It is very easy, isn’t it?

The goal-lists can be considered as a new successful kind of self-therapy.

The “patient” decides the number of goals he or she wants to reach, and he/she decides also the time he/she needs to realize all of them.

You can write a daily goal list, or a monthly one, or maybe you could choose to realize all of your aims in a year.

It does not matter how long it will take, the only important thing is to reach them.

The kind of aims you have to write can be very simple things – e.g. I’d like to eat an ice-cream.

You do not need to say that you’d like to go living on the moon.

If you reach your goals, you will understand that you are able to realize something good for yourself.

But sometimes one or more of your aims are not realized.

E.g. I’d like to win the marathon.

If you take into consideration this example, you have to focus on two main aspects:

First, if you want to win any kind of sport competition you have to train yourself.

Second, despite winning is your aim you should also be aware that it may not happen, and if you do not win you just have to be happy and proud of yourself because you tried to do something new.

Goal lists are very useful to understand how much you know yourself.

You can decide if you want to do only those things you know you are able to realize, or maybe, you should try to do something completely different and see if you will discover a new skill.

You can also try to ask to one of your friends (those who know you better than anyone else!) to write an aim list for you.

In this case, you see what’s your friends’ opinion on your skills, and maybe, you will discover that for them you could be able to do something you have never thought about.


Goal lists can really help you just if you do not keep on thinking you are not able to do anything.

Give it a try, and you will see how many things you can do.
